Quick Answer

An MCCB lockout device must match the breaker handle’s width, thickness, and available installation space. OSHA lockout procedures still govern hazardous-energy control; breaker amperage alone cannot establish clamp compatibility. BOZZYS BD-D11X and BD-D12X accommodate published handle limits of 16 × 10 mm and 38 × 13 mm, respectively. Our ISO 9001-certified manufacturing system includes 12-point in-process quality checks for consistent production control.

Why Does Breaker Type Affect Lockout Selection?

Split graphic contrasting a red clamp on a 250A breaker handle marked with a red X against a red lockout device with a DANGER tag on a 630A breaker.

MCCB Versus MCB Geometry

Molded case circuit breakers serve industrial feeders and larger loads. Handles may sit inside deep recesses or project from molded housings.

Miniature breakers have narrower toggles and different attachment features. MCB pin-type devices cannot automatically grip an MCCB handle.

Our MCB Lockout Devices Under IEC Standards Guide explains the smaller breaker configurations separately. IEC 60947-2 addresses industrial circuit-breaker performance, not universal lockout accessory dimensions.

Buyer Scenario: A Mixed Control Cabinet

Consider a cabinet with DIN-rail MCBs and one molded case feeder. Pin-type hardware may secure miniature units but not the feeder.

The MCCB lockout selection starts with physical handle measurements, not a shared panel rating.

Which MCCB Handle and Enclosure Measurements Matter?

Handle Width and Thickness

Measure the exposed handle at the intended gripping location using a suitable gauge or caliper. Record maximum width and front-to-back thickness, including any taper or raised ribs.

Then note whether the clamp contacts flat faces or an irregular profile. A published maximum opening does not guarantee purchase on every handle shape.

Travel, Clearance, and Padlock Access

Check the OFF-position handle angle, the recess surrounding it, and access to the fastening screw. Measure clearance to adjacent equipment and the closed cabinet door.

Finally, record the padlock shackle diameter and any group-locking arrangement. For general breaker selection methods, see our Circuit Breaker Lockout Selection Guide.

How Do BOZZYS Breaker Lockout Models Compare?

These published limits describe handles; body dimensions help assess enclosure clearance.

BOZZYS ModelMaximum Handle Width × ThicknessDevice Dimensions (L × W × T)Locking Arrangement
BD-D11X clamp-on breaker lockout16 × 10 mm55.68 × 29.5 × 33.63 mmClamp; padlock shackle ≤7 mm
BD-D12X clamp-on breaker lockout38 × 13 mm65.5 × 60 × 42.5 mmClamp; padlock shackle ≤7 mm
DPD132 × 18 mm88 × 72.4 × 32.3 mmBuilt-in keyed lock; optional shackle ≤8 mm
BD-D13X large clamp-on breaker lockout68 × 22 mm103.5 × 95.3 × 62 mmClamp; padlock shackle ≤7 mm

An MCCB lockout device within these limits still needs suitable clamping surfaces, recess clearance, and accessible locking points.

Worked Fit Example

A hypothetical 29 × 16 mm handle exceeds BD-D12X thickness limits. DPD1 meets both dimensional limits, pending fit checks.

A 52 × 20 mm handle may suit BD-D13X if its housing clears adjacent components.

Which Installation Errors Cause Breaker Lockout Failure?

Sizing by Amperes Instead of Geometry

A 250 A rating describes electrical capacity, not handle shape. Similar ratings can use different toggles.

Never assume a device labeled “universal” fits every housing. An unsecured clamp can shift when the handle is contacted.

Treating a Control Cover as Isolation

Covering a touchscreen or start button cannot disconnect hazardous electrical energy. OSHA distinguishes energy-isolating devices from control-circuit switches and similar operating controls.

How Should Teams Verify Breaker Isolation Before Maintenance?

Sequence for Qualified Personnel

Authorized personnel identify energy sources, shut equipment down, and operate the designated isolating breaker. They install the matched lockout hardware and attach the assigned personal lock.

Stored energy must be addressed under the equipment-specific procedure. For exposed electrical work, qualified personnel verify absence of voltage using suitable test equipment and prescribed practices.

Group Work and Identification

When several people service one machine, the energy-control procedure must maintain each worker’s protection. Use an appropriate hasp or group-lockout method rather than sharing control of one personal key.

Identification tags support communication but do not replace isolation or verification. OSHA 1910.147 and 1910.333 address different hazardous-energy and electrical-work requirements.

Where Does the BD-D22 Blocking Bar Fit?

Panel-Mounted Barrier Applications

Our BD-D22 Blocking Bar Lockout Kit addresses oversized or irregular controls that cannot accept a conventional handle clamp. Its adhesive-mounted alloy engineering-plastic body measures 192 × 102 × 27 mm.

Red and green blocking bars indicate locked OFF and locked ON positions. Two lock holes accept compatible padlocks or hasps with shackles up to 7 mm.

Limits of the Blocking Bar

The BD-D22 is not a direct substitute for a clamp-on breaker device. Its mounting surface, switch travel, adhesive placement, and intended blocking function require evaluation.

For work requiring de-energization, a touchscreen barrier must never replace the actual energy-isolating breaker or disconnect.

How Does BOZZYS Support Breaker Lockout RFQs?

Materials, Production, and Quality Records

We build BD-D11X, BD-D12X, and BD-D13X with reinforced PA66 bases and PA/ABS bodies. Their removable clamping plates and covered fastening screws support different handle geometries.

Our factory uses in-house molding and a 12-point in-process inspection system. ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 certify management systems, not automatic suitability of every individual device.

RFQ Data for OEM and Distributor Programs

Include breaker model, handle measurements, recessed opening, cabinet clearance, padlock diameter, quantity, and installation photographs. Add required labeling, packaging, and destination-market documentation.

BOZZYS supports OEM, ODM, and OBM programs for manufacturing, power, and petrochemical applications. Review our Circuit Breaker Lockout Collection and share your dimensional schedule for model matching.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Can One Clamp Fit Every MCCB?

No. Handle width, thickness, profile, and housing clearance vary across breaker designs. Published limits only narrow the candidate list.

2. Is Handle Width More Important Than Breaker Amperage?

Width and thickness determine clamp fit more directly than current rating. The exact breaker model and accessible mounting space remain essential.

3. Does a Lockout Device Confirm Zero Voltage?

No. Mechanical locking prevents unauthorized handle operation; it does not test circuit voltage. Qualified personnel must perform the required electrical verification.

4. Can BD-D22 Replace a Feeder Breaker Lock?

No. BD-D22 provides a physical operating barrier for suitable controls. Electrical isolation still requires the designated energy-isolating device.
